How they are made

Knit in Italy from 100% Mako Egyptian cotton, one of the longest-staple natural fibres, mercerised before knitting on 240-needle machines. Mercerising sets the colour deep in the fibre, which matters more in a red than in a neutral: it is the difference between a burgundy that stays burgundy and one that fades pink over a season. Heels are reinforced and hand-linked, and the toe is closed by hand, leaving a flat seam instead of a ridge.

Wearing burgundy

With navy trousers and brown shoes, burgundy picks up the shoe and lifts the trouser. With grey, it is the only colour in the outfit.
