Navy is the first tie a man should own, and the last he stops reaching for. It works with every suit in the wardrobe and asks for nothing in return. The only question is which navy tie. Our answer is the navy grenadine.
Meet the navy grenadine tie: foundational colour, texture instead of pattern, and made to be worn for years.
Texture, Not Pattern
Grenadine is an open leno weave: two warp threads twist around each weft and lock it in place. The result is an open, three-dimensional surface that reads as texture against any suit, never as pattern.
The tie is pure silk, woven on century-old looms in Como. Only a handful of mills still make authentic grenadine. We source ours from Fermo Fossati and Bianchi, two of the oldest in Italy.
Built to Last
Like every Aklasu grenadine, the navy grenadine tie is woven in garza fina, the finer, tighter version of the weave. It gives a smoother hand and a subtle texture that holds from formal to everyday.
It is tipped and wool-interlined, so the knot sits with a clean dimple and the tie resists creasing through the day. Bought once, worn for years.
The Most Versatile Tie You Can Own
Navy sits between the formality of black and the distraction of brighter colours. It adds presence without flash, which is why it is the tie you return to outfit after outfit. With charcoal it anchors the look; with navy it adds the texture a smooth tie cannot; with grey it is the warmer alternative to black; with brown it is the cool grounding note.
Here it pairs with charcoal trousers, brown double-monk shoes, a white spread-collar shirt, and a checked blue blazer.
