Product Information
Navy Grenadine Tie. Handmade in Como.
Most men own a drawer full of ties and still pause over which one to wear. Navy settles that. It sits under any jacket, works with the shirt you reach for most, and asks nothing of you on the morning you are already late. The one tie you stop thinking about.
Navy is foundational. It is the first tie a man should own and the last one he stops reaching for.
The Weave
Grenadine is a leno weave: two warp threads twist around each weft as it passes, locking it in place. The result is an open, porous fabric with structure and air. It holds a four-in-hand knot crisply and reads as texture, not pattern, against any suit. Only a handful of mills in Como still produce it.
Grenadine comes in two weights. Garza fina is the finer, tighter version, the one most people picture when they hear grenadine. It is the weave used in this tie. Garza grossa is more open, with larger holes and a more pronounced texture; we use it in our Grossa Grenadine line.
How to Wear It
Navy grenadine works against almost any suit a man owns. With charcoal, the tie anchors the outfit and stays out of the way. With navy, the texture provides the contrast that a smooth navy tie cannot. With grey, navy is the warmer alternative to black. With brown, it grounds the warmth.
For pairing guidance across colour and occasion, read Ties for a Navy Blue Suit and Ties for a Grey Suit.
Construction
Our grenadines are tipped. The silk tail is folded back at the end and a wool backing is sewn into the tip, giving it weight and a finished face. Some tie makers leave grenadines untipped, with the silk simply rolled at the end, which keeps the tip lighter. We chose tipped because it looks finished, both worn and laid flat, and because a substantial tip helps the four-in-hand knot sit cleanly.
Other Grenadine Colours
Navy is the first of three foundational grenadines. Prefer it darker? Take the Black Grenadine Tie. For warmth under a dark suit, the Burgundy Grenadine Tie. For a lighter grey against navy or charcoal, the Charcoal Grenadine Tie.
Finish the Look
Add the Navy Blue Edge White Linen Pocket Square. White linen with a navy edge picks up the tie without matching it, which is what you want in a breast pocket.
Part of the Aklasu Grenadine Collection. The navy grenadine is also the first tie in Set for Life, our three-tie foundation.

The Make

3¼″ at the blade. The proportion that holds against both a notch lapel and a spread collar, full enough to anchor a sport coat without dominating a suit.
Woven in Como on traditional jacquard looms.
An open weave silk made on antique looms in Como. More depth than plain silk, more discretion than a printed pattern. The cloth that dresses up and down.
A wool core inside the silk, slip-stitched along the length. Gives the knot body, the blade weight, and lets the tie release its creases overnight.
A single thread, gathered loosely along the length of the tie. The reason a well-made tie can be tugged, knotted, and untied for years and still return to its shape.
A hand-sewn anchor at each end of the slip stitch. Small, structural, and the reason the tie does not slowly come undone along its length.
Cut from the same silk as the face of the tie. The blade is held by the cloth it was made for.
With a clear window, so the tie is found at a glance, kept wrinkle-free, and shielded from dust, moisture, and the wear of travel. Made to keep. Made to give.
