Grenadine Ties

The grenadine tie is the most versatile tie a man can own. Woven on century-old looms in Como rather than knitted, its open, three-dimensional weave gives texture without pattern. That is what lets a grenadine tie hold its own across a business suit, a wedding, and most things in between.

Aklasu grenadine ties are pure silk with a wool interlining, the detail that gives the knot its dimple and keeps the tie from creasing through the day. The collection leads with the three foundational grenadines: the Navy Grenadine Tie, the Black Grenadine Tie and the Burgundy Grenadine Tie, with the Charcoal Grenadine Tie alongside them. The heavier garza grossa weave runs in parallel, in the Midnight Blue Grossa Grenadine and the Deep Burgundy Grossa Grenadine.

Grenadine is often mistaken for a knit tie. It is not. One is woven on a loom and the other is knitted, and the difference shows in how formal each one reads. If the weave is new to you, the primer covers how it is made and how to wear it.

Grenadine takes a four-in-hand well, because the open weave gives the knot something to grip. For what to wear it against, start with ties for a grey suit, then work out what goes in the breast pocket. Bought once, worn for years.
